Scaling and Root Planning

Scaling and root plaing is one of the best non-surgical ways to treat gum disease before it becomes too severe. If you have not had a cleaning in a longer period of time, have heavy gum inflammation, and/or have significantly higher amounts of calculus built up above and below your gum line, we will recommend you receive scaling and root planing treatment in necessary areas. Scaling and root planning is performed using local anesthetic to numb the area, and therefore should not cause you discomfort or pain during the procedure. A deeper cleaning is done to remove debris and inflammatory tissue below the gum line. Eliminating debris and inflammation through scaling and root planing will help to prevent bone loss and tooth mobility.
